Ezra Sun to run long/short China fund at Veritas
Ezra Sun to run long/short China fund at Veritas After recently reopening their Asian fund to investors Veritas have decided to launch a long/short China fund under UCITS III powers. The new fund will also be run by Ezra Sun and his co-manager Raymond Foo, and will be capped at approximately $500m. Sun’s performance aboard Veritas Asian is very impressive and over the last three years he has returned over 18% per annum, a significant 8.4% percentage points more than his average Morningstar Asia-Pacific ex-Japan Equity category peer. This outperformance has also been achieved with below average volatility. Sun has past experience running a long/short investment vehicle in the form of Veritas Real Return Asian.

BlackRock gain European regulatory approval for BGI acquisition The European Commission this week granted regulatory approval for BlackRock’s acquisition of Barclays Global Investors (BGI). The buyout, which is costing the American fund management house $13.5 billion in cash and shares, will create the world’s largest money manager. The deal makes BlackRock a huge player in the global exchange traded funds (ETF) market.

HIM Capital to launch financials recovery fund under former New Star manager
HIM Capital to launch financials recovery fund under former New Star manager HIM Capital announced this week that it is to launch an Income fund that will specifically target recovering financials stocks. The fund will be domiciled in Dublin and invest in both the bonds and/or equity of financial institutions. The fund will be managed by Nick Brind who cut his teeth aboard New Star Financial Opportunities between April 2005 and May 2009 before being replaced by Guy de Blonay.
