FSA Plans Crackdown on Hedge Funds

The Financial Services Authority, led by former investment banker Hector Sands, plans a crackdown on market abuses within hedge funds. The FSA has stated that they were “disappointed” by the results of informal visits made in recent months. As a result a series of systematic checks are being planned to look at hedge fund managers and their anti-abuse measures. London’s hedge fund industry has grown rapidly in recent years, with the number of hedge funds rising from just over 300 in 2000 to more than 1500 today.
