IShares Core MSCI World ETF offers a compelling way to gain exposure to the global equity market. The fund seeks to capture around 85% of the developed markets, with a focus on large- and mid-cap stocks. A significant portion of the fund is allocated to US equities, with the information technology sector being its largest.

Historically, the fund has delivered strong performance, consistently outpacing most of its peers while remaining one of the most cost-efficient options in its category. Its Irish domicile allows for dividend withholding tax reclaims, while participation in securities lending adds incremental returns, resulting in slight but positive after-fee excess returns. The challenges active managers face in highly efficient markets, particularly in the US, further reinforce the appeal of passive strategies like this one.

BlackRock’s industry-leading technology and investment expertise enhance the fund’s ability to track its benchmark with precision. The team relies on Aladdin, BlackRock’s own risk management and portfolio management platform, to ensure efficiency and effective risk control.

Overall, we hold a positive view of the strategy. It is broad, diversified, and representative of the investment opportunities available in global developed equities. Additionally, the exchange-traded fund is one of the most cost-effective options for achieving this exposure.
